The SlyeStrong #6 Foundation held their 2nd Annual New and Used Community-Wide Book Drive, and once again, the support was AMAZING!!

Through the generosity of our community, we were able to collect over 3,400 new and used books, coloring books, crayons, puzzles, games, bubbles, and pinwheels, along with over 1,500 coloring books created by the North Stafford High School Graphics Arts Department.

We were able to deliver books to Mary Washington Hospital, Stafford Hospital, Spotsylvania Hospital, Children’s National Hospital, Rappahannock Teen Mom Program, Stafford County ROSE (Reading Over the Summer is Essential) Program, Stafford County Head Start, Fredericksburg Head Start, , and Regional Alternative Education Center. Additionally, we were able to donate stuffed animals to the Stafford County Fire Department to provide comfort to young children during crises.

This year we branched out to Northern Virginia as well.  The American Heritage Girls Troop VA 2911 from Fairfax Christian Church joined in to support the drive! These books will be enjoyed by patients at Children’s National Hospital in Fairfax as well as INOVA Children’s Hospital.

We would like to thank the North Stafford Student Renaissance Team, Stafford County Public Schools, Mt. Ararat  Church, Rejuvalase Spa, Central Rappahannock Regional Library: Headquarters, England Run and Porter Library Branches, Books a Million, Jabberwocky Children’s Books and Toys, Dragonfly Yoga Studio, and the Fredericksburg Field House for assisting in the collection of books.

As always, we are forever grateful for our fabulous volunteers: LaShawn Knight, Margaret Lowry, Paula Williams , Jessica Roth, Julie Grebe, Mandy Moore, Pauletta Morrast, Heather Mangano, Jake Mangano, Brock Mangano, Marsha Sprouse, Savannah Sprouse, Brittany Avallenda and Karen Richardson, as well as our partners in Northern Virginia, American Heritage Girls Troop VA 2911, Chanda Conger, Abagail Conger, and Zelany Conger, for all their help collecting, stickering, sorting, and delivering all the collected goodies!

A very special thank you goes out to Tina Garrison for leading another VERY successful book drive!
