Medical
Research & Awareness
The SlyeStrong#6 Foundation promotes medical awareness and research projects by supporting activities of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (where AJ was a patient), and American Cancer Society. Additionally, SlyeStrong#6 rallies support for blood and blood product donations through groups like the American Red Cross, Virginia Blood Bank, and Children’s National Medical Center.
PLAYBOOK OF RECOVERY
Know of someone undergoing treatment or just diagnosed? This playbook of recovery was created by a loving family member who had heard stories of conflicting medications as well as the overload of information patients can and will go through. Raising Awareness
Light the Night
Each year the SlyeStrong#6 Team takes to the streets of Fredericksburg, VA to walk in Honor and Remembrance of those who have suffered through the battle with Leukemia or Lymphoma. It is always an amazing time meeting people who had somehow been affected by this horrible disease. We meet survivors, caregivers and those who have lost loved ones. The streets come alive with HOPE as we walk as a group carrying our lanterns (White for Survivor, Yellow in Memory of, and Red for Support). Our team of volunteers raised over $40,000 for donations to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society!
Many thanks to all those who continue to walk and all those who support our team!

Man of the Year 2017
Thank you from Joey Slye
I would like to thank you all for your tremendous support throughout my intensive 10-week campaign. The LLS Grand Finale Gala, held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Altria Theater in Richmond, VA, was amazing and truly inspiring.
I would like to share my final numbers with you all… drum roll please… throughout the Man of the Year campaign I raised a total of $63,078!
This would not be possible without YOUR support and contributions and I thank YOU again for touching my life and helping me touch other people’s lives through funds for cancer research.
Although I did not win the Man of the Year title, I hold my head high! Because of your generosity, my campaign raised the money needed to be able to name an AML Treatment Research Protocol in honor of someone. In that, I will be able to ensure AJ’s legacy lives on!
I would like to congratulate my fellow Man & Women of the Year candidates! The Richmond Chapter of LLS shattered their goal of raising $500,000 to battle blood cancers by raising a grand total of $598,000!!!
THANKS TO YOUR HELP we comfort, not only patients, but also the families whose lives are flipped upside down.
THANKS TO YOUR HELP we spread awareness of cancer treatment opportunities and ways to rally support.
THANKS YOUR HELP we can raised money for research to find a cure for blood borne cancers.
THANKS TO YOUR HELP we did our part to kick leukemia into extinction!
The next time someone hears the chilling words, “you have cancer,” hopefully we have made it a bit easier for the patients and their families. Together we have proven that SOMEDAY is TODAY and we can make a difference in the fight against cancer.
Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
Joey Slye

We Found A MATCH!
The SlyeStrong#6 Foundation volunteers spent Father’s Day, Sunday, June 19 2016, conducting a “Be the Match Bone Marrow Registry Drive.” We were able to help register 20 new donor candidates on site, as well as an additional 8 more who requested a kit be sent to their home.
On October 23, (AJ’s Birthday, no less) we received an email from Be the Match…
“WE FOUND A MATCH! From your event in June there was a preliminary match for a patient. This does not necessarily mean that the person will be a donor, but they are in the running! This is incredible! I, unfortunately can’t tell you the name of the person (confidentiality) but wanted to let you know that Slye Strong 6 is working miracles..”
This is incredible news! Someone we helped register has the potential of becoming a lifesaving donor! They will have to go through additional screening to get to help. According to Be the Match, 1 in 540 go on to donate.
This goes to show that even from a small pool of volunteers, there is a potential for GREAT things to happen!

Bone Marrow Donor Registry Drive
Battling Cancer Race
The SlyeStrong#6 Foundation volunteers spent Father’s Day, Sunday, June 19 2016, supporting the Pfohl Family in partnership with Mary Washington Hospital Foundation with their Battling Cancer Race in Fredericksburg. Mary Washington Hospital Foundation, a non-profit organization, oversees the funds raised by the race. All of the money raised stays local to the Fredericksburg area and benefits the patients at Mary Washington Healthcare Regional Cancer Center. We proudly supported this endeavor and were able to donate $600 to this cause.
Throughout this event, The SlyeStrong#6 Foundation conducted a Be the Match Bone Marrow Donor Registry Drive. We were able to register 20 people and had requests for kits from 8 others! This drive was very important to the Slye Family, since after 40 days of treatment they were informed that to save AJ’s life, he would need a bone marrow transplant. After searching the World-Wide Registry, they were told that AJ had NO Match. Our only hope for AJ was a risky and unproven half-match procedure with cells from his mom.
If you are between the ages of 18 and 44 and would consider being added to the bone marrow registry, please use this link to join.
All it takes …is a willing heart, some paperwork, and a quick mouth swab!
PLEASE, consider joining the Bone Marrow Registry! PLEASE, be the source of HOPE for someone else. It will only take about 10 minutes of your time to help save someone’s life!
Bowling in PA
We would like to thank Dean & Stephanie Felmlee and their staff at Seneca Bowling Lanes in Seneca, PA for a successful fundraiser! They were able to donate $500 to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital!
Dave and Laura’s hometown family and friends enjoyed a fun-filled evening of bowling and pizza in honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The event was held in support of the SlyeStrong#6 Foundation’s mission to donate to medical research and give back to the community.
We look forward to our continued partnership in Venango County, PA!
